A gate is the only part of a property everyone sees and nobody walks past quickly. Piers, gate, fence line and the light on it either belong to each other or obviously do not, so they get drawn together rather than bought separately.

Close to open water the gate lives in salt air, so material and coating get specified before styling does — aluminum, or steel that is coated for the exposure rather than for the showroom.

Spray carries further inland than people expect, which is why a finish specified here is not the one specified well away from the water.

Two approvals, not one

Can I see it before it's built?
Yes. It gets drawn onto a photograph of your entrance, and the changes happen there rather than in the shop.
What about the fence either side of it?
Drawn at the same time. A gate that does not agree with its fence reads as two separate purchases from the road.
Do I need pillars?
Not necessarily. Posts, piers and rendered pillars are three different structures, and the leaf and the ground decide which one is right.
Will it survive this close to the water?
Salt is the design brief on the coast, so material, fixings and finish are chosen for the exposure rather than for the photograph.
