Openers & operators · Doral, FL

Weight, length and cycles a day decide the unit — all three measured.

The urban coreWhere the driveway usually meets the sidewalk and the swing arc has to come from somewhere else.

Doral · Miami-Dade County

Three numbers pick an operator: what the leaf weighs, how far it travels, and how many times a day it does it. Get any one of them wrong and the motor is either overspecified or on borrowed time.

Short frontage means a slide unit or a compact ram arm: the operator has to fit the space that is actually left, not the space a catalog drawing assumes.

The urban grid was laid out long before anybody was automating an entrance, so the space a gate needs has to be found rather than assumed.

Inside the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone

Miami-Dade sits inside the Florida Building Code's High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, the strictest wind-load regime in the state, so the rating on posts, panels and hardware is not a nice-to-have here. Permits on top of that are issued locally — by the municipality or by the county — so what Doral wants to see on paper is worth confirming before anything is cut.

Worth knowing

  • Weight-matched
  • Duty-cycle rated
  • Programmed on site
  • Backup power options
  • Slide & cantilever options
Can I keep the operator I have?
If it is rated for the gate and still serviceable, yes. Replacing a working unit is not automatically the answer.
What actually is a duty cycle?
How many open-and-close cycles the unit is built to do in a day. It is the number that decides whether an operator lasts or not.
Do I need a safety loop?
It depends on the layout and the traffic. Where a vehicle can end up under a closing gate, detection is not an optional extra.
There is no room for a gate to swing.
Then it should not swing. A slide or a cantilever gets the same opening without needing an arc that is not there.

Next step

Nothing is quoted off a photograph alone. The opening gets measured first, and the drawing follows from the measurements.
